John Mahama returns as President: A time to seize the moment to develop Ghana-Omane Boamah

Today, January 7, 2025, marks a historic moment as John Dramani Mahama is sworn -in as President of the Republic of Ghana once again.
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang also takes her oath as the first female Vice President of Ghana, cementing a significant milestone in the country’s democratic evolution.
The swearing-in ceremony at Independence Square has reignited conversations about Ghana’s democratic resilience. Reflecting on this momentous occasion, a close ally of President Mahama, Dr Edward Omane Boamah shared a detailed account of the political journey that led to this day.
"Today reminds me of eight years ago when, alongside my colleagues Stan Xoese Dogbe and Joyce Bawah Mogtari, we accompanied former President Mahama to the same venue for President Akufo-Addo's swearing-in.
Now, the tables have turned, and Mahama returns as President while Akufo-Addo becomes a former President,” he recounted.
The National Democratic Congress's Director of Elections and IT also recalled a symbolic moment on January 6, 2025, during a visit to the Jubilee House, where former President Nana Akufo-Addo and President-elect Mahama displayed mutual respect. "As we departed, Akufo-Addo shook my hand and exclaimed, 'Doc, Back Again!'
It was a moment that reflected the cyclical nature of politics and Ghana’s commitment to peaceful transitions."
The "Back Again" phrase has been described as both profound and symbolic, representing an opportunity for President Mahama and Vice President Opoku-Agyemang to address the nation’s challenges.
“It’s a chance to reset Ghana, fix the economy, and tackle the institutional decay.
However, it also serves as a reminder that political opponents can return.
The question is, how long will it take?”
Dr Boamah expressed a desire for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to seize this moment to develop Ghana comprehensively, ensuring that any future comeback by their opponents would be delayed.
The Sovereignty of the People
As the celebrations continue, Ghanaians are reminded that the power to shape the country’s future remains in the hands of the electorate.
“The verdict is always in the thumbs of the sovereign people of Ghana,” he concluded, emphasizing the importance of accountability and governance in securing Ghana’s progress.
