Kufuor affirms his endorsement of Bawumia’s vision during a visit to Okyehene

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has commended the policies and vision of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Candidate, describing them as transformative for Ghana’s development.
During a visit to the Ofori Panin Palace at Kyebi in the Eastern Region, Kufuor formally presented the NPP ticket, led by Dr. Bawumia and his running mate Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, to the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II.
The former President lauded Dr. Bawumia’s strategies, emphasizing their potential to alleviate hardships and foster progress.
Affectionately called the "Gentle Giant," Kufuor reflected on the achievements of his presidency, which transitioned Ghana from a HIPC economy to lower-middle-income status.
He highlighted transformative initiatives such as the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), free maternal healthcare, the capitation grant, and the school feeding programme as a foundation for national development.
Kufuor acknowledged that this legacy has been expanded under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, citing the Free SHS policy as a landmark achievement.
He praised Dr. Bawumia for his inclusive governance style and deep understanding of economic management, referencing his contributions as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, particularly during a period when the exchange rate reached a notable one cedi to one dollar.
Urging Ghanaians to support the NPP in the 2024 elections, Kufuor expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership capabilities to address the suffering of Ghanaians and lead the country toward sustainable growth.
The Okyenhene commended Kufuor for his continued dedication to Ghana’s development and urged Ghanaians to heed his advice regarding Dr. Bawumia’s potential.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s Vice-Presidential Candidate, expressed gratitude to Kufuor for the endorsement and to Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin for his blessings and guidance.
“The spirituality and mystique surrounding this significant exercise are deeply appreciated and will remain etched in the annals of our political tradition,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh remarked.
