Kumasi brewery collapsed under Mahama – Akufo Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the previous economic policies of the main opposition leader John Dramani Mahama, led to the downfall of major industries, including the Kumasi Brewery, which once operated around the clock.
Speaking in the Central Region on Wednesday, 6 November 2024, President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to be wary of Mr. Mahama’s promises, asserting that his past record reveals a lack of reliable leadership.
“John Dramani Mahama will come here again before we vote in December 2024. When he comes, ask him about the Kumasi Brewery,” President Akufo-Addo stated, highlighting how the brewery, once a thriving, 24-hour operation, shut down under Mr. Mahama’s watch.
“It produced beer, Guinness, and operated three shifts within 24 hours. It collapsed during his tenure,” the President emphasised.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo questioned the NDC flagbearer’s commitment to a “24-hour economy,” challenging whether the former president could fulfil such promises given his track record.
“You want a 24-hour economy but couldn’t oversee what was left in your care. Is it now that you are going to do something about it?” he asked, urging voters to think critically about Mr. Mahama's leadership history.
President Akufo-Addo further emphasised the importance of consistency and stability in leadership to drive sustainable development. He warned that electing Mahama again would be a “mistake,” risking economic setbacks and stalled progress.
Instead, he endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, his vice-president and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, as the right candidate to continue the administration's development agenda.
“Let’s not make a mistake and retrogress,” President Akufo-Addo appealed to voters.
“Let’s throw our weight behind Bawumia and move forward to take Ghana to the next step of development,” he added urging Ghanaians to support the continuity of his administration’s policies to build on recent achievements, framing the election as a choice between progress and regression.
