The Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has made a heartfelt plea to politicians across the nation, urging them to abandon what he termed as 'slash and burn politics' for the collective good of the country.

Speaking at a Public Lecture held at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) in Accra, Dr. Adutwum emphasized the importance of political discourse based on truth and mutual respect. 

He stressed that for Ghana to progress, it was imperative for politicians to refrain from spreading falsehoods about their opponents merely for political gain.

Addressing a diverse audience comprising academia, politicians, students, and education stakeholders, Dr. Adutwum underscored the significance of acknowledging the positive contributions of political adversaries.

 He cited examples of occasions where he had commended the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for certain initiatives, such as the E-Block concept, despite reservations about its execution.

Dr. Adutwum highlighted the government's efforts in completing and enhancing E-Blocks, including the addition of boarding facilities, to make them more accessible to students nationwide. 

He also praised the strides made in the education sector, pointing to the improvement in West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results over the past five years as evidence of progress.

Furthermore, Dr. Adutwum emphasized the pivotal role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programmes in driving social transformation. 

He called for widespread acceptance and support for these educational initiatives to propel the nation forward.

During the question and answer session, Dr. Adutwum appealed to Ghanaians to maintain the current government in power, citing its ongoing development efforts as crucial for the nation's economic growth.

In closing, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, Chairman of UniMAC's Council and a former Minister for Education, commended Dr. Adutwum for his visionary leadership and commitment to educational transformation.

 He echoed the call to end divisive political rhetoric, emphasizing the importance of fostering trust and respect among politicians for the greater benefit of the nation.
