Mahama marks first anniversary of election victory, reaffirms commitment to ‘Resetting Ghana’ Agenda
President John Dramani Mahama has marked the first anniversary of the December 7 elections that returned him to power, expressing deep gratitude to Ghanaians and renewing his commitment to building what he called “The Ghana We Want.”
In a statement reflecting on the historic vote, Mr. Mahama praised Ghanaians for what he described as their resolve and determination to reclaim the country’s future.
He recalled the “anxiety, hope, and unwavering faith” of citizens who queued to vote and endorsed his proposed #ResettingGhana agenda.
“Thank you, Ghanaians. You believed in the promise of a Resetting Ghana agenda.
You trusted in our collective vision to build the Ghana we want,” he said.
The President also commended members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their role in securing the victory.
He particularly highlighted the work of polling agents, who he said acted as “our own referees” in safeguarding the vote.
According to him, the call for vigilance at polling stations countered alleged attempts by the Electoral Commission and the then ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to overturn the will of the people. “Your vigilance turned the tide,” he added.
Mr. Mahama extended special recognition to party executives, election management teams, communications, operations and strategy units for what he described as effective pre-election planning that translated into “unshakeable” election-day tactics.
Renewing his pledge to Ghanaians, the President emphasised that his administration will govern without discrimination or favouritism.
He reiterated that his government, led by Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, will focus on restoring trust in public institutions, expanding opportunities, and protecting justice for all.
“The Ghana We Want is not a dream deferred but a promise in progress,” he said, assuring that the work to rebuild the nation “goes on.”
He urged NDC supporters to remain committed, stressing that their ultimate reward lies not merely in appointments but in contributing to a nation where “hard work is rewarded, justice prevails, and children are given opportunities to thrive.”
“The journey continues. The work goes on,” the President concluded.
