Patrick Kwame Frimpong re-elected Presiding Member of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly
Mr Patrick Kwame Frimpong has been re-elected to serve as the Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) in the Ashanti Region for the next two years following a decisive 'Yes or No' vote.
The election follows two inconclusive rounds on February 19, 2026, in which neither of the two candidates—Mr. Frimpong and Ernest Baffour Ofori—secured the two-thirds majority required to claim the position.
In today’s rescheduled election, Mr. Ofori withdrew from the contest, pledging his support for the incumbent in the “interest of the development of the KMA.”
This paved the way for a straightforward 'Yes or No' vote.
Of the 66 Assembly members, 58 were present, and all voted in favour of Mr. Frimpong, comfortably surpassing the required two-thirds majority.
Following the outcome, Mr Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi commended the Assembly members for placing the development of Kumasi above personal ambitions and successfully electing the Presiding Member.
