Mahdi Jibril urges peace, unity ahead of Yawaso East primaries
Mahdi Jibril, Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on party members and supporters to rally behind the Yawaso East parliamentary primaries and conduct themselves peacefully before, during, and after the process ahead of the by-election. He emphasized that unity and discipline within the party remain essential to securing future electoral victories.
Speaking on The Citizen Show on Accra 100.5FM on Wednesday, hosted by Nana Otu Darko, Mr. Jibril described the Yawaso East primaries as a crucial political exercise that will send a strong signal as the party builds momentum toward the 2028 general elections. He expressed confidence in the NDC’s prospects, stating that the party is well positioned to win the by-election and make a decisive political statement.
Mr. Jibril also criticized the performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Parliament, describing the current Minority caucus as ineffective and lacking direction, an assessment he believes has boosted public support for the NDC.
Touching on governance, he argued that under a Mahama-led administration, Ghanaians would have little appetite for a return of the NPP to power, citing what he described as stronger leadership credentials and people-centered policies under the former president.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity within the NDC, with the Yawaso East primaries expected to play a defining role in shaping the party’s momentum toward the by-election and the 2028 general elections.
