Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has strongly condemned the violent incidents that erupted during the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run election held on July 11, 2025.

Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin expressed deep concern over the attacks that left several individuals injured, including prominent political figures.

He revealed that former Member of Parliament, Hawa Koomson, was physically assaulted at the St. Peter’s Society Methodist Church polling station.

In the same incident, Deputy National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, was reportedly beaten mercilessly, and NPP parliamentary candidate Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie suffered facial injuries.

The Minority Leader called for a comprehensive investigation into the violence and a swift prosecution of all those found responsible.

He urged the government and security agencies to act decisively to ensure such incidents are not repeated and that the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process is safeguarded.

"This country must not become a place where political violence is tolerated or normalised," Afenyo-Markin said.

"We demand a full-scale investigation, followed by prosecution of the perpetrators, and an unequivocal condemnation from the government."

He further demanded an official apology from the government to the victims of the attacks, insisting that justice and accountability must prevail.
