Member of Parliament for Mpreaso Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr Davis Opoku Ansah, has announced that he is a co-sponsor of the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana (Amendment) Bill, 2025, currently before Parliament.

The proposed legislation seeks to amend sections of the Constitution that prevent some Ghanaians from holding certain public positions due to dual citizenship or perceived allegiance to another country.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Opoku Ansah highlighted the contributions of Ghanaians living abroad, noting that many continue to support the nation through remittances, investment in businesses, job creation, and the transfer of knowledge.

He said the bill aims to ensure that qualified citizens willing to serve the country are not unfairly barred from contributing to Ghana’s governance.

“Supporting this bill does not diminish loyalty to Ghana,” he said.

“It simply opens doors for the nation to benefit from the experience, skills, and expertise of all its citizens, wherever they reside.”

The bill is expected to spark debate in Parliament as lawmakers consider its potential impact on public service eligibility and the broader engagement of the Ghanaian diaspora in national development.
