The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah has reiterated calls for a comprehensive forensic audit of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, emphasizing its importance in enhancing the credibility of future elections.

In a statement issued on January 11, 2025, the Director thanked all Ghanaians who supported the party’s push for accountability, including those who participated in the nationwide "Enough Is Enough" demonstration, which demanded an audit of the 2024 voters register and the EC's IT systems.

“The patriotic call for a forensic audit remains as relevant today as it was before the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

We must uncover the causes of the illegal transfers, deleted names on the voters register, and other anomalies that undermined the integrity of the electoral process,” he stated.

The NDC official highlighted several unresolved issues that, in his view, demand urgent investigation:

Theft of Electoral Equipment: The mysterious disappearance of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) equipment from the EC’s headquarters, a facility under 24-hour police and military protection with CCTV surveillance. Biometric Voter Device (BVD) Theft: The unexplained theft of BVDs, critical equipment for verifying voters. Dubious Ballot Papers: Incidents of suspicious ballot papers discovered on election day, including cases in the Kwadaso Constituency of the Ashanti Region. Postponed Special Voting: The theft of ballot papers in the Eastern and Western regions, which necessitated the reprinting of ballots and caused delays in special voting.

The Director argued that addressing these issues is essential to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections in the future.

“We must dig deeper to expose the EC's lapses and hold accountable any complicit individuals, including the printers and their accomplices.

This is crucial for protecting Ghana's democracy,” he said.

The NDC leader called on all Ghanaians who cherish democracy to support the party’s demand for a forensic audit.

“This is not just an NDC issue; it is a national issue. Transparency and accountability must be at the core of our electoral processes,” he concluded.
