The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has clarified its position regarding the signing of the Peace Pact 2024 ahead of the December 7 general elections.

Mr Mustapha Gbande, the party’s General Secretary in charge of Operations, outlined the party’s approach in a statement released on Thursday.

According to Mr. Gbande, the NDC’s initial concerns about the Peace Pact, as proposed by the National Peace Council, remain valid and relevant.

However, subsequent discussions with the Council have addressed most of the party’s conditions for signing, with a few still requiring further dialogue.

“The leadership has examined the recent proposal from the Peace Council.

Most of the demands we made have been fulfilled, while the rest need further discussion,” Mr. Gbande explained.

He emphasized the party’s commitment to a peaceful electoral process, citing the preparations by key institutions to ensure a transparent and violence-free election.

The statement reaffirmed the commitment of NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, a former President and international peace ambassador, to processes that protect the country’s stability.

“The NDC has remained vigilant and prepared to address any acts of lawlessness or unlawful behaviour on voting day,” he added.

Mr. Gbande announced that the party’s leadership has agreed to attend the Peace Council meeting to further discuss the unresolved issues with all stakeholders.

“Should there be a need to sign, the flagbearer, together with the General Secretary and in consultation with the National Chairman, will make a decision in the best interest of the party,” he stated.

The NDC has urged its members and the public to monitor the process closely and follow updates provided by the party’s Communications Bureau.
