NDC condemns 'Gestapo-style' invasion of Citi FM, 'unlawful, preposterous' arrest of Kudah
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the arrest of Citi FM journalists Caleb Kudah and Zoe Abu-Baidoo as ‘unlawful and preposterous’.
The biggest opposition party said: “The oppression of journalists and citizens by the despotic Akufo-Addo government must stop.”
Mr Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the NDC, said these in a social media post.
The post on Facebook read: “The NDC condemns in no uncertain terms, the arrest of Caleb Kudah and the Gestapo invasion of the office of Citi FM by armed National Security operatives. The act is unlawful and preposterous. The oppression of journalists and citizens by the despotic Akufo-Addo gov’t must stop. #SayNoToCultureOfSilence”
Mr Gyamfi’s post comes hours after heavily armed police officers in five Pickups stormed the office of the Adabraka-based media house on Tuesday, 11 May 2021 to arrest female journalist Zoe Abu-Baidoo, for allegedly conspiring with her colleague, Caleb Kudah, to “secretly film” the compound of the Ministry of National Security.
Mr Kudah was arrested while filming the premises of the ministry, as he waited for someone he had gone there to visit.
He allegedly sent the videos to his female colleague who was in the office of the radio station at the time, prompting the war-style invasion of the media house by the armed police officers to effect the arrest of the female journalist.
Ms Abu-Baidoo was later released after questioning.
Mr Kudah has also been released after hours of interrogation.
