NDC in Lower Manya Krobo demands withdrawal of MCE nominee

A group of aggrieved grassroots members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region have called on the President and national leadership of the party to immediately withdraw the nomination of Mr. John Atter Matey as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
At a press conference held at the NDC party office in Nuaso Newtown, the group expressed outrage over what they described as a betrayal of trust and a disregard for loyalty, competence, and long-standing service to the party.
Reading the statement on behalf of the group, Odonkor David Der and Francis Kwawukume accused Mr. Matey of being divisive, arrogant, and lacking the moral authority and unifying qualities needed to effectively lead the municipality.
“This nomination is a direct affront to party stalwarts and grassroots members who have dedicated over three decades to the NDC,” the statement read.
“It signals that party loyalty, humility, and competence no longer matter in appointments.”
The group cited a series of allegations against Mr. Matey, including failure to account for a GHC 50,000 donation from a parliamentary aspirant during the last primaries, hoarding of fertilisers meant for farmers, and lack of transparency in handling party resources during the 2024 general elections.
They also accused him of manipulating the appointment process by involving close family members.
According to the group, several other experienced and loyal party members who applied for the same position were unfairly sidelined.
“This act of political injustice not only breeds discontent but threatens the unity and stability of the NDC in Lower Manya Krobo,” they stated, warning that failure to address their concerns could lead to further unrest within the Constituency.
The group concluded with a passionate appeal to the President and the Office of the Chief of Staff to intervene and ensure that what they termed a “grave mistake” is corrected.
“This is not about personalities,” they said, “it is about justice, loyalty, competence, and the future of the NDC in Lower Manya Krobo.”
They cautioned that if their demands are ignored, peace in the constituency could be at risk.
