NDC’s Godwin Tameklo welcomes NPP boycott of Ablekuma North re-run

The Director of Legal Affairs for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Eduzi Tameklo, has reacted positively to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to boycott the upcoming parliamentary election re-run in Ablekuma North Constituency.
In a Facebook post shortly after the announcement by NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, Mr. Tameklo described the move as “good news,”? Hinting at the NDC’s readiness to contest the re-run in the absence of their main political rivals.
The Electoral Commission has scheduled a re-run of polls in 19 polling stations within the constituency to resolve a months-long electoral dispute.
The controversy emerged following irregularities and confusion during the collation of results in the December 7, 2024, parliamentary elections — a situation that has left Ablekuma North without a Member of Parliament for over six months.
The re-run, slated for Friday, was expected to bring closure to the prolonged impasse.
However, the NPP’s decision to withdraw participation has raised questions about the legitimacy and competitiveness of the process.
While the NPP remains dissatisfied with the EC’s handling of the matter. The NDC, on the other hand, appears poised to take advantage of the development.
With political tensions simmering in the constituency, all eyes are now on the Electoral Commission and how it proceeds with the re-run in light of the NPP’s withdrawal.
