The recently retired Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment he has received from the party's leadership, despite his significant contributions to championing its ideals, often at personal risk.
In a leaked tape circulating on social media, the lawyer-turned-politician lamented the lack of recognition for his efforts.
In the leaked recording, Mr Boahen voiced his frustration to an unidentified sympathiser, bemoaning the party's apparent failure to acknowledge the sacrifices he has made over the years.
He went on to disclose his intention to form his own political party, stating decisively, "I am going to form my own party. I am gone."
Expressing his disappointment, Mr Boahen conveyed a sense of betrayal, noting that he could no longer speak on behalf of the party as he feels undervalued.
He expressed his perception that the party views him as worthless.
He said: "They think I am worthless."
Mr Boahen specifically criticised the NPP leadership for what he perceived as a lack of regional balance in the composition of the National Campaign team.
He expressed discontent over not being included in the team, particularly after personally campaigning for Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia during the Super Delegates’ conference of the party.
The leaked tape captured Mr Boahen's frustration with the party's leadership and his decision to part ways, suggesting a potential shift in his political allegiance.
