#NPP Primaries: Dome Kwabenya rejects Adwoa Safo; Oquaye Jnr wins

Sarah Adwoa Safo has been unseated by her long-time rival Mike Oquaye Jnr in the Dome Kwabenya constituency as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate.
Mr. Oquaye won by a significant margin in the polls held on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
At the conclusion of the elections, Mike Oquaye Jnr garnered 1,198 votes, while Sarah Adwoa Safo received 328 votes. Additionally, Sheela Oppong Sakyi secured 186 votes.
Adwoa Safo's defeat comes amid criticism for her prolonged absence from her constituency, during which she traveled abroad for almost a year to care for her unwell child. Despite pleas and calls for her to return and fulfill her parliamentary duties, Adwoa Safo remained abroad, prompting disappointment among her constituents.
Upon her return, Adwoa Safo apologized to her constituents and sought their support to contest and represent them again in parliament in 2025. However, the election results suggest that her constituents have not forgiven her for abandoning them, as evidenced by the overwhelming support for her rival, Mike Oquaye Jnr.
