NPP race: Farmers foot GH¢50k bill for Afriyie Akoto's nomination form

Some farmers who support Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto's flag bearer bid of the governing New Patriotic Party, have pulled resources together to pay the GH¢50,000 nomination form for the former agriculture minister, his campaign spokesperson Dr Prince Amuzu has said.
Dr Amuzu told journalists on Monday, 29 May 2023, after paying for the form on behalf of Dr Afriyie Akoto that: "We want to continue to thank Ghanaian farmers and the friends of Dr Akoto who pulled themselves together to make it possible this morning that the forms for the contest have been picked at the party’s headquarters".
“Team Akoto says thank you very much and God bless you for the show of love and support", Dr Amuza said, adding: "From here, we are taking the forms to the campaign head office, where the team will be sending the forms to him to hear his side".
“These farmers are across the country, and they have come out boldly to say they want to encourage Dr Akoto", he emphasised.
"To the delegates, the farmers, the good people of Ghana, we say thank you", he appreciated.
He noted: "Farmers across the country indicated they wanted to do this, and he [Owusu Afriyie Akoto] did not deny them the opportunity". "Delegates and friends as well came together to pull resources as a sign of love and support for him. The impact of Dr Akoto, who was given the opportunity to serve as an agric minister, is felt by all and sundry", Dr Amuzu added.
Dr Akoto is in the race with Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, former trades minister Alan Kyerematen, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Essikado-Ketan MP Joe Ghartey and the party’s former general secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
Others include former energy minister Boakye Agyarko, former minister of agriculture Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former minister of regional cooperation and NEPAD Kofi Konadu Apraku and former Mampong MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.
