NPP supporters in Akwatia root for Ama Sey ahead of by-election

A growing number of members and supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region are calling on the party’s leadership to re-nominate former Member of Parliament, Madam Mercy Adu Gyamfi, popularly known as "Ama Sey," as the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election.
Addressing the media in Akwatia, Mr. Fredrick Kwame Gyekye, the campaign coordinator for Ama Sey, acknowledged the overwhelming calls from the grassroots and NPP sympathisers urging the party to present her as its parliamentary candidate.
“Ama Sey remains the most popular and influential figure in Akwatia today.
She is the only candidate capable of securing a decisive victory for the NPP in the upcoming by-election,” Mr. Gyekye stated confidently.
He emphasised that during her tenure as MP, Ama Sey spearheaded numerous development projects that significantly improved the lives of constituents.
According to him, she not only brought infrastructural improvements but also made personal investments in the Akwatia constituency, earning the trust and admiration of the people.
Mr. Gyekye called on the NPP national and regional leadership to heed the calls from the constituency and endorse Ama Sey’s candidacy, citing her proven track record and deep connection with the electorate.
The Akwatia seat became vacant following the death of the sitting MP, Ernest Kumi, prompting a by-election.
