The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Ghana, Her Excellency Ms. Imane Ouaadil, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Mr John Abdulai Jinapor, to formally introduce herself and reaffirm Morocco’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Ghana.

During the meeting, Ambassador Ouaadil expressed her country’s strong interest in supporting Ghana’s Green Ghana Agenda, particularly in the area of sustainable agriculture and clean energy.

She disclosed Morocco’s willingness to establish an ultra-modern fertiliser production plant in Ghana as part of a collaborative effort to promote environmentally friendly farming practices.

The proposed facility, she explained, would utilise renewable energy sources—such as solar, wind, and hydropower—to produce green ammonia, a vital component in modern fertilisers.

Unlike traditional fertiliser production methods that rely heavily on fossil fuels, this green approach aligns with Ghana’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy.

Mr John Jinapor welcomed the initiative and commended Morocco for its continued support for Ghana’s development.

He emphasised that the government is prioritising renewable energy as part of its strategy to gradually shift away from expensive and unsustainable liquid fuel dependence.

To facilitate the project, the Minister directed that a joint working group be established, comprising Moroccan and Ghanaian technical teams.

The group, to be chaired by Deputy Minister Richard Gyan-Mensah, will be responsible for coordinating technical information and ensuring the smooth rollout of the proposed fertiliser plant.

Mr. Jinapor further requested that a formal letter of intent be submitted to his office to officially initiate the process and enable the government to provide the necessary facilitation and support.

He warmly welcomed Ambassador Ouaadil and pledged the government’s full cooperation in advancing mutual interests between Ghana and Morocco for the benefit of both nations.
