The youth of Asene in the Eastern Region have expressed deep disappointment over what they describe as years of failed promises and lack of accountability by their Member of Parliament, Mr. George Kwame Aboagye.

In a strongly worded press release issued on Monday, the aggrieved youth cited three major projects—the River Adim bridge, a community library, and an Astroturf field—as emblematic of the MP’s neglect and inability to deliver on his commitments.

According to the group, Mr Aboagye, who has served the constituency since 2016, has consistently failed to fulfil development pledges despite enjoying unwavering support from the people of Asene.

Among the major grievances is the abandoned bridge project over River Adim.

Initially promised in 2019, the steel bridge was expected to provide vital access to farmlands and enhance economic activity.

However, the MP reportedly cited the project as "beyond his capacity," despite years of repeated assurances.

Another source of discontent is the incomplete library project, which was initiated as far back as 2011 and picked up in 2017 under the MP’s watch.

The youth are now demanding an official audit to determine how much has been spent so far, and are calling on the Assembly’s engineer to ensure proper safety and structural standards are enforced before its completion.

The controversial Astroturf project has also come under scrutiny.

The youth allege that there is no clear record of its existence at the District Assembly level.

Mr. Aboagye reportedly blamed the delay on a change of government and claimed to be pursuing support from the Ghana National Gas Company.

However, the youth say these explanations raise serious concerns about transparency and project ownership.

The youth group is demanding the following immediate actions:

Completion and audit of the library project to ensure transparency and value for money.

Clear disclosure from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Koforidua on the Astroturf project—detailing the contractor, funding source, design, and project timeline.

Fulfilment of the bridge construction promise without using political transitions as an excuse for inaction.

In light of what they view as the MP’s repeated failure to deliver, the youth are appealing to the central government, philanthropists, development institutions, and well-resourced citizens of Asene to step in and help address the longstanding infrastructure deficits in the community.

"Asene's loyalty and support deserve better," the statement concluded.

The press release was signed by Acquah Michael on behalf of the concerned youth of Asene.
