National Peace Council is a useless entity-Hannah Bissiw
The National Women’s Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw-Kotei, has sharply criticized the National Peace Council for its perceived failure to address election-related violence during the 2020 general elections.
Dr. Bissiw-Kotei expressed her frustration, stating that the council has become an ineffective institution, failing to fulfil its role as an independent body.
She argued that the leadership of the council lacks independence, accusing them of serving the interests of their benefactors rather than the nation.
Dr. Bissiw-Kotei made these comments during an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show, co-hosted by Otafrigya Kayire Kwesi Apea-Apreku and Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
She further emphasized that the NDC will not sign any peace accord ahead of the December 7 elections unless justice is served for the eight NDC supporters who lost their lives in the previous election.
She further criticized the council for focusing on urging the NDC to commit to a peace agreement while neglecting the injustices faced by NDC supporters, some of whom were allegedly attacked by individuals in fake military uniforms.
Dr. Bissiw-Kotei stressed that resistance has become a necessity for many NDC supporters, who are determined not to allow their party to be intimidated again, especially when institutions like the National Peace Council are failing in their duties.
She concluded by stating that the NDC will take control of its own destiny and will not rely on what she described as ineffective institutions like the National Peace Council.
