Nkrumah saga: When you speak the truth, they say you're disrespectful – NAPO

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has fiercely defended his recent statement that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's achievements surpass those of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
During his unveiling ceremony at the Manhyia Palace, on Tuesday, 9 July 2024, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO, asserted that no President in Ghana’s history has achieved more than President Akufo-Addo including Dr. Nkrumah.
His comments sparked controversy, with critics accusing him of arrogance and disrespect toward historical leaders.
On Wednesday, 10 July 2024, during a visit to Tetrete Okuamoah Sekyim II, the Omanhene of Wasa Amenfi Traditional Area at Wassa Akropong in the Western North Region, NAPO addressed these accusations head-on.
“For us politicians, we do our politics every four years. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, you have supported him to do what he can do in Ghana. Even when I said it they have taken it wrongly. I say ever since independence, from 1957, from Kwame Nkrumah till today, no government has worked harder than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” NAPO explained.
He countered claims of arrogance by asserting that he is merely stating the truth rather than being disrespectful.
“But the politics we do, when you speak the truth, they say you are disrespectful. When you lie then you are praised. I am your child, I am your grandson, you did not raise me with lies,” he explained.
