Over 3000 Odawna market fire victims to benefit from NBSSI support in 2 weeks – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated that the victims of the Odawna market fire will be beneficiaries of support from the National Board of Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI) within two weeks.
Nana Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, 18 November 2020, visited the Odawna market, where hundreds of stalls were destroyed by a fire outbreak at dawn.
“Through the NBSSI, support is going to be provided to the over 3,000 persons affected by the fire, within two (2) weeks,” he said.
He also disclosed that the government will take the responsibility of re-wiring all markets across the Greater Accra Region to avert such future disasters.
“I also indicated that the government will undertake the re-wiring of all markets in Greater Accra to forestall such tragic occurrences in the future,”Mr Akufo-Addo wrote on his Facebook page.
The Odawna market near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra was gutted by fire at around 1 am today.
Personnel from the Ghana Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service had to rush to the scene when the fire started, to fight it and protect lives and property.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
Most traders in the market have completely lost their wares to the fire.
