Stop the media raves and come argue your case in Parliament – Ayariga to Afenyo-Markin

Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has called on Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to bring his grievances to Parliament instead of, in his words, "venting in the media."

Mr Ayariga’s remarks follow an incident on Thursday when the Majority in Parliament abandoned a session, leading Speaker Alban Bagbin to suspend proceedings indefinitely.

Shortly after, Afenyo-Markin held a press briefing, expressing his dissatisfaction with the Speaker's handling of parliamentary matters, even accusing him of fostering disorder in the chamber.

Mr Ayariga criticized the Effutu MP’s approach, urging him to address parliamentary issues within the chamber instead of holding public press conferences.

“If you have an issue, address it in the chamber,” Ayariga said.

“These extended media addresses and criticisms of the Speaker are misplaced.

If you want to challenge the Speaker, do it within the chamber, not on the airwaves.”

Mr Ayariga further encouraged Afenyo-Markin to focus on advancing government business and addressing pressing national concerns for the benefit of Ghanaians.

He spoke in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM.
