Supreme Court takes up Kpandai election annulment case today
The Supreme Court is expected to consider an application on Tuesday, December 16, aimed at overturning the ruling of the Tamale High Court which set aside the results of the Kpandai parliamentary election.
The motion was submitted by the disputed Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Mathew Nyindam, who is contesting the High Court’s decision that invalidated the outcome of the December 7, 2024 polls. He argues that the trial court wrongly assumed authority to hear the election case brought by the NDC parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.
Mr Nyindam is requesting the apex court to conduct a judicial review and nullify the High Court’s judgment, including all related proceedings, on the grounds that the petition itself was improperly filed.
In response to the High Court’s verdict, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has also filed for a suspension of the ruling’s implementation to stop the Electoral Commission and the NDC from taking any steps to enforce the annulment, pending the Supreme Court’s final determination.
