They tried bribing Gyakye Quayson and threatened him with jail when it failed – Sammy Gyamfi

National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has claimed that certain individuals attempted to bribe and intimidate the MP-elect for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson, in order to dissuade him from contesting the seat.
Mr Gyamfi praised Mr Quayson for his unwavering commitment to the NDC and credited him for the party's victory in the Assin North constituency.
Despite facing bribery attempts and threats of imprisonment, Mr Quayson remained steadfast in his dedication to his constituents, according to Mr Gyamfi's Facebook post.
Describing Mr Quayson as calm yet confident, humble yet courageous, and meek yet fearless, Sammy Gyamfi highlighted the MP-elect's personal conviction and determination to fight for justice, even at the risk of losing his civil liberties.
Mr Quayson was re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Assin North in a by-election held on June 27.
The election involved three candidates: James Gyakye Quayson of the NDC, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
Mr Quayson secured 17,245 votes, representing 57.56% of the total, surpassing his closest rival, Opoku, who garnered 12,630 votes (42.15%). The LPG candidate, Sefanu, received only 87 votes (0.29%).
The previous election held in 2020 was invalidated by the Supreme Court due to Quayson's dual citizenship status at the time of filing his nomination forms. As a result, the court ordered Parliament to remove Quayson's name from its records, leading to the vacancy of the parliamentary seat.
