Trend of undermining Judiciary worrying - Kan-Dapaah
The National Security Minister Albert Kan -Dapaah has raised concerns about a growing distrust in Ghana's judiciary among politicians, particularly in the lead-up to the December 7 elections.
Speaking at a forum in Accra, Mr Kan -Dapaah criticized the trend of undermining the judiciary, warning that this could lead to a situation where none of the major political parties would be willing to seek judicial resolution for their grievances.
He stated, “We may for the first time experience a situation where none of the major political parties will be willing to explore the courts to address their grievances.”
Mr Kan Dapaah further highlighted the severity of the issue, mentioning that some senior political figures have expressed a loss of faith in the courts' ability to address electoral concerns, which could potentially lead to chaos.
Mr Kan Dapaah stressed the importance of establishing a transparent and robust electoral system that all parties can trust, saying, “It underscores the need for us to build a robust and transparent electoral system where results coming from same will be acceptable by all parties.”
He also called on citizens to prioritize peace during the elections.
“Ghanaians must also be aware of their responsibilities.
They must not allow themselves to be used by politicians who lose elections.
Peace is very expensive and sometimes we have to make sacrifices one time or the other to maintain it.
So may nobody participate in violence.
So those who lose, accept it peacefully,” he urged
