Vetting of ministerial appointees to begin Feb. 10 – Idrissu
The ranking member on the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Haruna Idrissu has disclosed that that Appointments committee will commence the vetting of President Akufo-Addo’s ministerial appointees on 10 February 2021.
“The Appointments Committee have met and we're requesting for public memoranda in respect of all the President's appointees to the various ministerial positions. We are expected to commence vetting or scrutiny of the President's ministers on the 10th of February,” he said on the floor of Parliament on Friday, 29 January 2021.
He however stated that “priority will be given to some ministers particularly Health because of the COVID situation in the country and probably he will be the first minister to be considered by our committee, followed by those other ministers of National Security and Finance”.
President Akufo-Addo named his nominees for ministerial positions in his second term on Thursday, 21 January, 2021.
The President’s list of ministerial nominations was forwarded to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Subsequently, the Speaker, on Friday, 22 January 2021, referred the ministerial appointments list to the Appointments Committee This follows the reading of a letter the Speaker received from the President for the consideration and approval of the nominees.
The nominees are expected to be vetted by the 26-member Appointments Committee.
Thirteen members are from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) while the other 13 are from the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The nominees are also expected to be recommended for approval or disapproval at the end of the vetting process.
