Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on the church to safeguard its moral authority by ensuring that its voice remains independent of partisan politics and steadfast in promoting justice, accountability and national development.

She made the call while delivering the keynote address at the 90th anniversary celebration of the Accra Ridge Church in Accra.

According to the vice president, the church has historically played a vital role in shaping society through its advocacy for peace, justice and ethical leadership, and must continue to serve as a moral compass for the nation.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang stressed that the credibility and influence of religious institutions depend largely on their ability to remain impartial and speak truth to power regardless of the political climate.

She noted that the church's voice is most effective when it consistently champions fairness, accountability and the welfare of citizens without being perceived as aligned with any political interest.

The vice president further encouraged religious leaders to continue fostering unity, tolerance and social cohesion while contributing to national discourse on issues affecting the country's development.

She commended the Accra Ridge Church for its contributions to education, healthcare and community development over the past nine decades, describing its legacy as a testament to the positive impact faith-based institutions can have on society.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang also urged the church to continue partnering with government and civil society in addressing national challenges while maintaining its independence and moral leadership.
