The Minority in Parliament has called for an immediate discontinuation of a fresh prosecution against the convicted TikToker Camilla Alhassan.

The Police, in a statement dated July 17, 2026, disclosed their plan to file another charge against Camilla Alhassan over her inflammatory comments that targeted President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady. 

Miss Alhassan was arrested by the Police following a viral video of her launching unprovoked verbal attacks on the President and his wife.

She made wild allegations against the First Gentleman of the nation and his wife but failed to prove it in court as she pleaded guilty to the charges of publishing false news and engaging in offensive conduct.

She has been convicted and sentenced to a year imprisonment on the count of the offensive conduct but the Police say they are preparing to pursue another case on the count of the publication of false information.

“The Ghana Police Service is also taking steps to put the convict before the High Court on the separate charge of False Communication under the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775)”, a portion of the Police statement read.

But the Minority leader, addressing the press today on behalf of the Caucus, Alexander Afenyo-Markin kicked against the planned move by the Police.

“We demand, first, the immediate withdrawal of all pending prosecutions under Sections 207 and 208 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act including the second prosecution threatened against Camilla Alhassan.”

The Minority also called for the cancellation of all other related offences and a discharge of the convicts.

Afenyo-Markin said the Caucus demand “the discharge of any person currently serving a sentence  including Kwame Nkrumah…who was jailed 6 months or so ago over a TikTok video”.
