Minister for Youth, Sports, and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated he is not impressed with Black Stars Coach Otto Addo's management of the senior national team.

Adams expressed worries about Ghana’s performance during the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers (WCQ), towards the tournament happening in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Ghana drew against Chad last Friday, and beat Mali by one goal on Monday, September 8, 2025. Currently, Ghana leads Group I with 19 points. The team needs to win at least one of its two pending games if it would qualify for the World Cup.

The sports minister's remarks underlined his displeasure for the Black Stars' inconsistent performance, calling into question the ability of the team's technical team. He lamented the team missing out on the Morocco Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, too, to bolster his point.

“Very soon, AFCON is going to start in Morocco. Are we going to be part of it? No, we will watch on TV. We have not even qualified for the World Cup yet. We still need a win and at least a draw to comfortably say that, as far as our group is concerned, nobody can overtake us,” Adams bemoaned.

The sports minister, speaking to Citi FM, strongly questioned the quality of Coach Otto Addo’s decision-making.

“If I tell you I am impressed, then it means I do not know my job. I am not. There is a lot of room for improvement. Even when you meet the coach himself, he admits that he got things wrong and takes responsibility. But the question is: for how long will you continue to take blame for wrong decisions?” he asked.
