AfPC President engages Nigerian High Commissioner in strategic talks on para sports development

On Friday, May 2, 2025, Mr. Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC), paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Ifedayo Adeoye, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, at the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.
The visit provided a platform for strategic dialogue on advancing para sports across the African continent.
Key among the discussions were preparations for upcoming AfPC flagship events, including the maiden West African Para Games to be hosted in Nigeria, the AfPC General Assembly, and the Open Para Championship scheduled for November 2025 in Accra.
Mr. Deen also used the occasion to formally request the High Commission’s support in facilitating a high-level meeting between the AfPC and the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The proposed engagement would allow the Committee to update Her Excellency on its upcoming initiatives and seek her continued support in promoting disability sports and inclusion.
Her Excellency Senator Tinubu was named Grand Patron of the African Paralympic Games and Para Sports in 2023, a role that enables her to champion the cause of athletes with disabilities and mobilise First Ladies across Africa to support inclusive sporting opportunities.
High Commissioner Adeoye warmly received the AfPC delegation and commended Mr. Deen’s visionary leadership.
He expressed his deep alignment with the goals of the Paralympic Movement and reaffirmed his full support for the Committee’s programmes.
The High Commissioner also highlighted the First Lady’s unwavering commitment to empowering women and marginalised groups, and assured that she would be open to engaging with the AfPC leadership.
