CAF President Motsepe to visit Senegal amid AFCON 2025 appeal dispute
The president of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, is scheduled to visit Senegal on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, his office has confirmed.
During the visit, Dr Motsepe is expected to hold talks with Senegal’s Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and the President of the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football, Abdoulaye Fall.
CAF has not officially outlined the purpose of the visit, but it is widely expected to be connected to the recent decision by its Appeals Jury to strip Senegal of the AFCON 2025 title.
On March 17, CAF awarded a 3-0 victory to Morocco following a ruling on the AFCON final involving Senegal.
The decision came after an appeal by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), challenging the outcome of the match in which Senegal had originally secured a 1-0 win over Morocco to lift the title.
CAF’s Appeals Jury declared the appeal admissible and overturned the earlier ruling by its Disciplinary Jury, citing procedural grounds. It stated that Morocco’s right to be heard had not been respected during the initial process.
Senegal has since taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, filing an appeal against the decision.
