Desmond Offei: Assistant Black Stars Coach asserts quality, world-class sports facilities crucial for sharpening sportsmen

Assistant Coach of the Black Stars Desmond Offei has emphasised the importance of quality, world-class sports facilities for local sportsmen and women.
He said this would aid in sharpening the talents and skills of individuals in sports, enhancing their confidence when they take on international opponents, too.
Offei spoke to ghanafa.org on areas that needed urgent improvement in local sports. He indicated his team was in talks with Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister for Sports & Recreation on the subject.
“I think the number one key area that needs improvement is facilities. Our boys need to play on the best pitches. We've been engaging with the Sports Minister so they're also trying and willing to help. So I think that's the key area for us, to make sure that the boys can play on the best possible pitch,” he said.
During the Black Stars games to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Ghana’s pitches were rated subpar by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Both Ghana and Angola’s head coaches complained about the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi, Ashanti Region, when they clashed in a match which saw the host’s 24-year record of taking no losses at home broken by guests Angola with a 1-0 score line.
