GPL clubs unite against hooliganism, agree on 'enhanced match day security protocols'
All the football clubs of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) have united in strongly condemning hooliganism and violence at football games.
All 18 clubs agreed on a joint statement necessitated by the Sunday, February 2, violence that marred a game between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko SC, eventually leading to the stabbing to death of a Kotoko super supporter.
“In the meeting held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the GFA Secretariat, all Premier League Clubs have agreed to enhanced match day security protocols. These enhanced protocols will form the basis of an Executive Council meeting of the GFA on Friday, February 7, 2025, after which comprehensive guidelines shall be published ahead of the resumption of the premier league season,” the statement said.

The tragic incident that occurred at the Nsoatreman FC vs. Asante Kotoko SC match, resulting in the loss of life of a loyal Kotoko fan, Francis Nana Frimpong (aka Pooley), is particularly disturbing and unacceptable.
We stand in solidarity with the family of the deceased and extend our deepest condolences to them as well as to the entire Asante Kotoko SC fraternity.
As GPL clubs, we are committed to promoting fair play, sportsmanship, and respect for the game, its officials, and spectators. We will not tolerate any form of hooliganism, violence, or intimidation at our match centers.
