Ghana's FIFA World Cup campaign came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32 at Kansas City Stadium.

Jhon Arias scored the only goal of the match in the 14th minute as Colombia secured a place in the last 16, where they will face Switzerland.

The Black Stars struggled to create clear chances throughout the contest and finished the match without a shot on target. Across their four matches at the tournament, Ghana managed just four shots in total, the fewest of any team at the World Cup.

Ghana made a bright start, with Thomas Partey narrowly missing the target with a long-range effort inside the opening minute.

Both sides were forced into early substitutions during a frantic opening spell. Colombia lost Jhon Cordoba to a groin injury, while Ghana right-back Marvin Senaya was replaced by Alidu Seidu after suffering a hamstring injury.

Colombia took the lead when substitute Luis Suarez broke down the right and delivered a cross for the unmarked Arias to volley home at the far post after Seidu failed to track his run.

Ghana's best attacking moment of the first half came when Antoine Semenyo saw a shot deflected over the bar, while Colombia continued to threaten through Luis Diaz and Suarez. Goalkeeper Lawrence Zigi also produced an important save to keep out Johan Mojica's header before the interval.

Colombia remained in control after the break. Richard Rios fired wide shortly after coming on, Gustavo Puerta tested Zigi from distance and Diaz had a goal ruled out for offside after Partey lost possession.

Zigi was again called into action to deny Diaz when he was through on goal, while Partey dragged Ghana's best second-half opportunity wide in the 69th minute.

Colombia continued to create chances, with Juan Fernando Quintero shooting narrowly wide, Diaz seeing another effort deflected off target and Davinson Sanchez forcing another save from Zigi with a header.

Despite pushing for a late equaliser, Ghana were unable to break down Colombia's defence and exited the tournament in the Round of 32.

The result also meant Ghana became the seventh of nine African teams eliminated at that stage of the competition, with only Morocco and Egypt progressing to the last 16.
