Ghanaian delegate honoured at 2024 Korean Paralympic camping in South Korea
Ghanaian para-delegate Michael Obeng has been recognized with an honorary award at the 2024 Korean Paralympic Camping (KPC) held in Incheon, South Korea.
Obeng, who led Ghana's delegation, joined 60 participants from across the globe, including athletes, coaches, and staff, in preparation for the 2028 Paralympics set to take place in Los Angeles.
The Ghanaian team included para-swimmers Akotoh Bryan Baffour Kwadjo and Aheto Promise Wonder, alongside para-badminton athlete Judith Adu Yeboah.
Under Obeng’s leadership, they took part in a variety of activities during the eight-day programme, which ran from November 5 to 13, 2024.
Participants engaged in specialized training sessions for swimming, badminton, and taekwondo, aimed at honing their skills for the upcoming Paralympic Games.
The programme also featured a special lecture series, a Korean cultural tour, and sports classes.
Opening and closing ceremonies highlighted memorable moments from previous camps, creating a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie and learning among participants.
All participants, including Obeng and his team, were awarded medals and certificates of participation by the KPC 2024 organizers.
In his closing remarks, Michael Obeng expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organizers and acknowledged the support of the president of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana, Samson Deen.
“I am thrilled to have been part of this enriching programme.
My thanks go to the organizers for providing such a valuable platform for learning,” Obeng said.
“I also want to extend my deepest appreciation to Mr. Samson Deen for the opportunity to participate in this camp.
We have gained immense knowledge and will use it to educate and inspire others back in Ghana.”
The participation of Team Ghana in the KPC 2024 marks a significant step in the country’s Paralympic journey.
The experiences and training gained during the camp are expected to boost the team’s readiness for future international competitions, particularly the 2028 Paralympics in Los Angeles.
