Go for Hervé Renard; Ghana’ll win Afcon – Foh Amoaning to GFA
Sports administrator Moses Foh Amoaning has advised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to hire Frenchman Hervé Renard as the next coach of the Black Stars following the exit of C.K Akonnor.
The GFA fired Coach Charles Akonnor and his two Assistants on Monday, 13 September 2021 after it received the technical report from him and the report from the Black Stars Management Committee following Ghana’s Group G World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa.
Akonnor played 10 matches, won four, drew four and lost two.
The Executive Council of the GFA has formed a three-member committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours.
Reacting to these on the Class Morning Show on Class91.3FM on Tuesday, 14 September 2021, Mr Amoaning said Hervé Renard was the best man for the job.
He told show host Kofi Oppong Asamoah that: “I think we’ve two options, Hervé Renard is somebody I’ve spoken to earlier, he loves this country, he’s been here before he really wants to achieve with Ghana and I think all the players who play for this country, some of them have passed through his hands including our captain [Andre Ayew], and he will have the confidence not only of the players but the media and the general Ghanaian populace.”
“I think he’s the right person to go for. Forget about the money, every person has a price and now I know he’s engaged in Saudi Arabia but if we speak to the Saudis, I think they might be willing to release him to us to coach us in these exigencies,” he stated.
Asked if he had confidence that Hervé Renard can qualify the Balck Stars to the AFCON in Cameroon, Mr Amoaning was optimistic saying: “yes, he will take us to the Afcon and World Cup. He will win the cup of nations for us I am telling you, if we get Hervé Renard he will win it in January and you will say I told you so, just record me because it’s been 40 years, by next year exactly 40 years, and spiritually that’s always a generation, so we seem to have some luck going with us, if we do proper preparation with respect to selection of players and are truthful, and we prepare well, we will win it.”
He stressed: “I think Hervé Renard has got the right temperament, he understands the Ghanaian game and because there is an emergency, because we are playing Zimbabwe home and away in October, so you need somebody who already knows the terrain and for me he’s the best person. I know the GFA is looking around for him, I really trust Kurt Okraku and his team, I think they will land Hervé Renard for us by Friday…”
