Ibrahim Mahama surprises Azumah Nelson with a brand-new car

Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has surprised Ghanaian boxing legend Azumah Nelson with a brand-new car, in a heartwarming gesture of appreciation.
The surprise gesture took place during Azumah’s visit to Ibrahim Mahama’s office, with Sharaf Mahama, son of President John Dramani Mahama and CEO of Legacy Rise Sports, and British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua who was the special guest at Battle of the Beasts.
The Battle of the Beasts was a boxing event organised by Legacy Rise Sports at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Friday, June 13, 2025.
The trio had earlier paid a special visit to President John Mahama at the Jubilee House. They proceeded to the office of Ibrahim Mahama to thank him for his support during the event.
According to Ibrahim Mahama, this gesture was a celebration of the legacy of Azumah Nelson who was arguably Africa’s greatest boxer.
Friends who were present, were in awe when Ibrahim Mahama handed over to Azumah the keys to a brand-new Toyota Fortuner vehicle, and an undisclosed amount of money, recognising the champion, not only for his achievements in the ring but for his continued contributions to Ghanaian sports and youth development.
Azumah Nelson, visibly moved, expressed deep gratitude, saying the gesture reminded him that true greatness was remembered and celebrated.
“I am grateful to you (Ibrahim Mahama) and Sharaf Mahama for this big surprise. I didn’t expect this at all. I am just supporting my son Sharaf who has shown great interest in promoting the sport I love,” Azumah said.
Present at this surprise gesture were team members of Anthony Joshua; some friends of Ibrahim Mahama; Yaw Sakyi Afari, Head of RITE Sports Services and Manager of Azumah Nelson; Henry Quarshie, businessman and a member of Azumah’s team; and some team members of Legacy Rise Sports.
Ibrahim Mahama is the founder of Engineers and Planners, and Dzata Cement Limited.
