Sports Events Consultant and football fan Yaw Sakyi has penned an open letter to Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey, urging him to maintain emotional discipline and focus ahead of Ghana's upcoming match against England.

The letter, shared via social media, arrives as the national team prepares for the highly anticipated fixture, during the FIFA 2026 World Cup hosted by Mexico, United States, and Canada.

Partey is expected to return to the pitch for the encounter with England after missing Ghana's Group L opener against Panama due to entry clearance challenges in Canada. His anticipated return also comes amidst ongoing personal controversies, as the midfielder faces allegations of sexual abuse and rape made by multiple women in the United Kingdom.

In the correspondence, Sakyi emphasises that Partey’s midfield experience and leadership will be critical to the success of the Black Stars, cautioning him that opponents may attempt to use underhanded provocations to disrupt his game.

"In matches of this magnitude, emotions run high and opponents may try to distract you, frustrate you or draw reactions that take your focus away from the game," Sakyi wrote.

"We expect one or two of the English players to make comments on the blind side of the referee which should get you angry but when that happens, PLEASE stay calm, stay disciplined and let your football do the talking."

The letter highlights the necessity for Partey to avoid receiving unnecessary disciplinary bookings, stressing that his composure and tactical intelligence are his best responses to on-pitch challenges.

Sakyi notes that the country requires his leadership for the entire duration of the match to ensure the team is not put at a disadvantage.

Concluding the message, Sakyi calls on the midfielder to channel his intensity into his performance, rallying national support behind the team and expressing hope for a victory reminiscent of Ghana's previous performance against Panama.

The government of Ghana and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had explored diplomatic and legal means to secure his appearance for the Panama game but were unsuccessful, driven by the conviction that he would make a significant difference.

Although Ghana ultimately went on to win the tough clash against Panama, the sole goal of the match came in the 95th minute from Caleb Yirenkyi. All eyes will now be on Partey for the difference he brings to the next high-stakes game.
