Anthony Joshua suffers minor injuries in Nigerian accident

Two people have been confirmed dead following a road traffic accident involving British boxing star Anthony Joshua in Nigeria.

Joshua, 36, sustained minor injuries after the Lexus SUV he was travelling in collided with a stationary truck, the Ogun State Police Command has confirmed. The former world heavyweight champion was seated in the back of the vehicle alongside four other adult male occupants.

The crash occurred at about 11 AM on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Makun, approximately 30 miles from Lagos.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), preliminary investigations suggest the Lexus SUV was travelling at a speed above the legal limit and lost control while attempting an overtaking.

Videos circulating on social media show Joshua conscious but visibly shaken, wincing in pain as bystanders assisted him from the severely damaged vehicle.

Police authorities said Joshua was taken to hospital for medical attention, while investigations have been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The two foreign nationals who were pronounced dead at the scene are yet to be formally identified. The FRSC added that the remaining two passengers escaped unhurt.
