Ryan Mendes backs Cape Verde to excel at the Afcon

Cape Verde skipper Ryan Mendes has backed his side to progress even further in this years AFCON following a superlative performance against Mozambique Friday afternoon. The tiny West African state made it two wins on the trot with a 3-0 defeat of their Southern African opponents.
Mendes who was part of the team that made a historic quarter final appearance at the 2013 nations cup in South Africa believe the squad has what it takes to progress and make history for their nation.
“ I believe this team is even better than the side in 2013 and I am confident in the abilities of my team mates to make history. No one would have given us a chance of winning our first two games but here we are.
“We are fighting for this together and though we have already qualified for the next stage, we are not going to be resting. We would keep working hard and prepare for our next game against Egypt who are a very tough side. We want to finish the group stages in a very strong way and carry that form into the knock out,” he told Class Sports Kwame Dwomoh-Agyemang.
Cape Verde play their final game against Egypt with the Northern African Side needing a result to ensure certainty in qualification to the next stage of the competition.
