Sports Minister inaugurates Interim Management Committee for Ghana Professional Boxing
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr. Kofi Adams, has inaugurated a new Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee Ghana Professional Boxing.
The committee’s primary mandate is to investigate the circumstances surrounding recent in-ring deaths that have raised serious concerns about safety standards in the sport.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Adams said the move was necessary to restore public confidence in Ghanaian boxing and ensure the welfare of athletes is prioritised.
He noted that the committee would also review existing safety protocols and make recommendations for reforms.
The IMC is expected to work closely with stakeholders, including coaches, referees, promoters, and medical professionals, to implement measures aimed at preventing further tragedies in the sport.
Mr. Adams urged the committee to act with urgency and transparency, stressing that boxing remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated sporting disciplines and must be safeguarded for future generations.
