Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has mourned the eight who were aboard the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Z9 helicopter which crashed and burned on August 6, 2025.

He led members of the Executive Council, FA staff and some club officials to lay a wreath in memory of the crash victims during a solemn ceremony at the Golden Jubilee House gardens.

During his tribute, Simeon-Okraku fondly noted one of the victims of the crash, Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, once served at the sports ministry.

“On behalf of the football association and the football community, we express our sincere condolences to the president of our republic, the government, the people of Ghana, and the families of the eight outstanding departed Ghanaians,” he began.

He said, “We join a grieving nation in mourning. We fondly remember Dr Edward Omane Boamah, who served sports and football diligently as a deputy minister of sports. May their souls rest in perfect peace. Their memory will forever be cherished.”

The victims of the Adansi, Ashanti Region, crash were:

- Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah

- Environment Minister Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed

- Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Mohammad Muniru Limuna

- Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party Samuel Sarpong

- Former Parliamentary Candidate Samuel Aboagye

- Helicopter crew squadron leader Peter Bafemi Anala

- Flying officer Malin Twum-Ampadu

- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

At the state burial for the eight, at the Black (Independence) Star Square today, Friday August, 15, 2025, Mr Simeon-Kurt was joined by GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, senior executives, staff members, and officials from football clubs across the country to commiserate with the bereaved families, and more broadly, the nation.
