2026 FIFA WC: Newly qualified lawyer passes away during Black Stars win, celebrations
A 26-year-old private legal practitioner, Sara Araba Tettey, has passed away after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest.
The incident occurred during celebrations following Ghana's 1-0 victory over Panama in their FIFA World Cup opening match on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Ms Tettey, an alumnus of the Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year and was an associate at O & A Legal Consult.
According to sources, she was watching the football match with friends at Standard Hostel, a private student accommodation at Bomso near the KNUST campus in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. She suddenly became unresponsive as fans celebrated the final whistle.
She was rushed to the KNUST Hospital for emergency medical attention.
Medical personnel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately 45 minutes in an effort to revive her, but she was subsequently pronounced dead.
Friends and former classmates have described Ms Tettey, widely known as Araba Tettey, as a hardworking and dedicated individual.
Her body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy and final funeral arrangements.
