24-Hour Economy key to Africa’s sustainable growth – Captain Smart challenges gov'ts and CEOs
Renowned Ghanaian broadcaster, Captain Smart, has described the concept of a 24-hour economy as the single most effective policy capable of driving sustainable development across the African continent.
Speaking to Kwabena Bobie Ansah on the Citizen Show on Tuesday, 7th October, 2025, Captain Smart argued that the 24-hour economy model, which promotes round-the-clock business operations, has the potential to drastically reduce unemployment, boost productivity, and enhance revenue generation in African nations.
Captain Smart emphasised that while several governments, including Ghana, have occasionally mentioned the idea, very few have demonstrated clear strategies or actionable frameworks to make it a reality.
He further called on the government to move beyond political rhetoric and develop concrete plans to support industries, improve energy supply, and ensure worker safety, critical factors necessary for the success of a 24-hour operational system.
The 24-hour economy debate continues to gain traction in Ghana’s political and economic circles, with proponents arguing it could be a game-changer for industrial growth and youth employment.
