The Ghana Institute of Engineers (GhIE) and the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) have collaborated to appoint leaders for the Association of Ghana Water Limited Engineers (AGWLE), with the aim of addressing engineering challenges within the company.

During the first day of a two-day inaugural engineering conference held in Accra on October 2, 2023, the AGWLE leaders were officially introduced.

The event was attended by notable members of the engineering community, with the goal of reshaping engineering practices within GWCL.

The newly formed AGWLE comprises 28 members representing various regions and has been entrusted with the responsibility of resolving the company's engineering issues across the country.

AGWLE President Richard Appiah Otoo, in accepting the honour on behalf of the other members reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the company's reputation and addressing the current challenges.

He also urged everyone involved in their mission to provide support.

"As per our oath, we are dedicated to creating an environment that acknowledges the significant contributions of engineers to our organization and Ghana as a whole," said President Appiah Otoo.

"Within the engineering community, we will actively promote professionalism and excellence," he noted.

He further emphasised the potential of engineers to overcome challenges, from pipe leakages to ensuring access to clean water for every Ghanaian.

He expressed confidence that by working together, engineers could find solutions to current issues and develop long-term solutions to fix some of these challenges.

President Appiah Otoo encouraged everyone to use the association as a platform for generating innovative ideas to build resilient water systems in the face of advanced machine learning and extreme climatic variations, drawing inspiration from remarkable engineering achievements throughout history, from ancient aqueducts to contemporary space shuttles.
