The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra, Mr. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has launched a rigorous enforcement campaign in the Central Business District (CBD) of Accra to ensure compliance with the city's ongoing decongestion directives under the newly implemented ‘Red Line Policy’.

The enforcement exercise, carried out on Friday, targeted major commercial zones including the stretch from Kinbu to the Tudu traffic lights, Makola 31st, Rawlings Park, and the area around the ECG office.

These locations have long been plagued by congestion and lawless activity, particularly involving commercial motorbike (okada) riders and unauthorised transport operators.

According to city authorities, the ‘Red Line Policy’ designates restricted zones where commercial transport operations — especially okada services — are strictly prohibited in a bid to restore order, improve sanitation, and ensure pedestrian safety.

“We are determined to bring back discipline to the capital city.

The Red Line Policy is not just about traffic control; it's about enforcing the law and creating a clean, safe, and orderly city for all,” MCE Allotey stated during the exercise.

The MCE, accompanied by city officials and task force personnel, personally oversaw the clearing of unauthorised vehicles, traders, and transport operators who had taken over pavements and roadsides.

Several warnings and citations were issued, with offenders being advised to relocate to designated transport terminals and trading areas.

City officials say the enforcement will be sustained in the coming weeks and extended to other parts of Accra as part of a broader urban renewal strategy.
