Bawumia outlines ‘buy Ghana first’ policy vision for Ghana’s future

Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has elaborated on his new “Buy Ghana First” policy, which he plans to implement if elected president in the upcoming elections.
Speaking to community stakeholders in the Okaikoi Central Constituency in Accra on Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia explained that the "Buy Ghana First" policy aims to promote local industries and support the private sector by prioritizing the purchase of goods and services produced in Ghana.
“I hear we are currently buying school uniforms from China.
That will not happen under the Buy Ghana First policy,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
“We will also ensure that furniture for schools is not imported from other countries.
Whatever we can buy from Ghana, we will buy here to help boost our local industries, support the private sector, and create more jobs for our people.”
During the nearly hour-long engagement, Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision and policies to an audience comprising the clergy, imams, traditional rulers, traders, car dealers and other community members.
He detailed several key initiatives, including a new tax regime featuring a tax amnesty for businesses and the introduction of a flat tax rate.
He also discussed strengthening the existing "Gold for Oil" policy, introducing solar energy solutions to reduce power costs, and deploying electric buses for public transport to lower transportation expenses.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia proposed a new mining regime designed to empower small-scale miners and promote responsible mining practices, as well as a plan to train one million youth in information and communication technology (ICT) skills for digital jobs, both locally and abroad.
Dr. Bawumia also highlighted the policies he championed as Vice President, which he said have already had a significant impact on the country.
He urged the constituents and Ghanaians to support his bid for the presidency, citing his proven commitment and ability as Vice President.
"I have demonstrated my dedication to serving this country. Now, I ask for your vote to lead as President and continue to drive positive change for all Ghanaians," he concluded.
