Calls grow for gov't support to boost Ghana’s street fashion industry

There are increasing calls for the government to invest in Ghana’s street fashion industry, as young designers continue to showcase the creativity and innovation needed to compete on the global stage.
The latest voice in support is Jonnah Setsoafia, CEO of Jonnah’s Vintage, a brand specialising in streetwear, branding, and labelling.
He believes Ghanaian youth have the potential to set global fashion trends while reducing the nation’s dependence on imported clothing.
Street fashion — popularly known as streetwear — is rooted in urban culture and has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in the global fashion market.
Speaking at the launch of his brand in Ashaiman-Lebanon, Mr. Setsoafia said that with the right financial support, Ghanaian youth could rival, and even surpass, established international labels such as Calvin Klein.
His father, Togbi Gbeti Setsoafia, Director of Uncle Dave Designs, reinforced the appeal, urging the government to provide young fashion entrepreneurs with access to modern equipment, funding, and infrastructure.
He noted that such support would not only boost Ghana’s fashion industry but also create jobs and reduce unemployment among the youth.
